German New Medicine (GNM): Interactive Chart of the 5 Biological Laws
An interactive, visual guide to German New Medicine (GNM) by Dr. Ryke Geerd Hamer: drag a marker along the two-phase chart (DHS, conflict-active phase, conflictolysis, PCL-A, epileptoid crisis, PCL-B), see what GNM expects for psyche, brain relay and organ by germ layer, describe your symptoms in plain words, and explore the Five Biological Laws and a glossary.
An interactive guide to German New Medicine (GNM), the model of health and disease that Dr. Ryke Geerd Hamer set out in his Five Biological Laws. Everything here explains what GNM teaches, in its own terms: drag the marker along the two-phase curve, pick an organ, describe what you notice, and see how GNM reads it on the levels of psyche, brain and organ.
The two-phase chart
In GNM every Significant Biological Special Program runs the same course: normotonia → DHS → conflict-active phase (sympathicotonia ) → conflictolysis → PCL-A → epileptoid crisis → PCL-B → normotonia. Above the line is stress mode, below it rest-and-repair mode (vagotonia ). Click or drag anywhere on the curve (or use the arrow keys) to see what GNM says is expected at that point.
Describe your symptoms
Type what you notice in plain words. A simple word-and-phrase matcher (no AI, nothing leaves your browser) reads it the GNM way: signs of sympathicotonia or vagotonia, crisis signs, and words that point to an organ. It places the marker on the chart and says why. Words after "no", "not" or "without" are left out.
Organs by germ layer and brain relay
GNM orders every organ by the germ layer it grows from, and each germ layer by the part of the brain that, in GNM, controls it. Pick an organ on the body, in the list, or click a part of the brain to see its organs. The selected organ is also used by the chart above.

What is German New Medicine?
German New Medicine (GNM) is the system that the German physician Dr. Ryke Geerd Hamer (1935-2017) developed from 1981. Hamer described every illness as a Significant Biological Special Program (SBS) that starts with a sudden, isolating conflict shock, the DHS (Dirk Hamer Syndrome, named after his son), and runs on three levels at once: the psyche, the brain and the organ. He summed the system up in five biological laws.
The two phases of every program
In GNM a program has a conflict-active phase of constant sympathicotonia (cold hands, poor sleep, little appetite, constant thinking about the conflict) and, once the conflict is resolved (conflictolysis), a healing phase of vagotonia (fatigue, warmth, often fever, swelling and pain). The healing phase is split by the epileptoid crisis into PCL-A, with edema, and PCL-B, when the edema leaves and scar tissue forms. Hamer said the length and strength of the healing phase follow the conflict mass, and that recurrences triggered by tracks can keep a healing "hanging".
Germ layers and brain relays
The third law sorts every tissue by its embryonic germ layer. In GNM the brain stem controls the endodermal organs and the cerebellum the old-mesodermal ones; both make cells multiply in the active phase and break them down in healing. The cerebral medulla (new mesoderm) and the cerebral cortex (ectoderm) do the opposite: cell loss or loss of function in the active phase, rebuilding in healing. The mark a program leaves in its brain relay is the Hamer focus.
Questions
- How does the "Describe your symptoms" box work?
- It looks for words and phrases from a fixed list (for example "cold hands", "fever", "cough", "chills", "peeing a lot") and adds up which GNM phase each one belongs to, and which organ words appear. It is a keyword matcher, not artificial intelligence, and nothing you type is sent anywhere or saved.
- What decides the side of the body?
- In GNM, a person's handedness decides on which side of the cerebellum and cortex a conflict lands. Hamer used the clapping test: the hand on top is the leading hand.
- Why do microbes appear only in the healing phase?
- Hamer's fourth law says the brain switches on the microbes of each germ layer after conflictolysis to break down or rebuild tissue, so in GNM they are helpers of the healing phase.
- Where does the information come from?
- From Hamer's own descriptions of the Five Biological Laws and the GNM teaching material based on them (for example the scientific chart of GNM and learninggnm.com). The organ list here is a short selection.
