Free Online 3D Modeler for 3D Printing: Make STL and 3MF Files

Free online 3D modeling app for beginners and 3D printing: add boxes, cylinders, spheres, 3D text and more, cut holes, group shapes, revolve and extrude your own drawings, start from templates like a name keychain, phone stand or gear, check that it fits your printer and is watertight, estimate filament and cost, and export STL, 3MF, OBJ or GLB. Runs in your browser: nothing is uploaded.

A free 3D modeler for beginners, made for 3D printing

MES 3D Studio is a simple 3D design app that runs in your browser. Put shapes together like building blocks, turn some of them into holes to cut away, then export an STL or 3MF file for your slicer (Cura, PrusaSlicer, Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer). Nothing is uploaded: your models stay on your computer.

How to make your first model

  1. Click a shape on the left (for example a Box). It appears on the build plate.
  2. Drag the coloured arrows to move it, or type exact sizes in millimetres in the Shape panel on the right.
  3. Add a Cylinder, press Hole, move it into the box, select both (Shift-click) and press Group: the cylinder is cut out of the box.
  4. Open the 3D print tab to check that it fits your printer, is watertight and see how much filament it needs.
  5. Press Export STL / 3MF and open the file in your slicer.

Questions

What does "watertight" mean?
A printable model has to be a closed skin with no gaps, like a balloon. The check counts every edge: in a closed model each edge is shared by exactly two triangles. Shapes made here are always closed; imported files sometimes are not.
What is an overhang?
A part of the model that faces down steeper than about 45° from upright. The printer would lay plastic on thin air, so it needs supports. Turn on "Show overhangs" in the 3D print tab to see them in red, then try turning the model so the flat side is down.
How is the filament estimated?
The outside skin (about the surface area times the wall thickness) is solid, the inside is filled at your infill percentage. Grams = that volume times the plastic's density (PLA 1.24 g/cm³), metres = volume divided by the filament's cross-section. Your slicer gives the exact numbers; this is a good first guess.
Which file should I export?
STL works with every slicer. 3MF keeps millimetres, colours and separate parts, and is the default of PrusaSlicer and Bambu Studio. OBJ and GLB are for other 3D programs, games and web viewers.
Can I open files from Thingiverse or Printables?
Yes: open STL, OBJ, GLB or 3MF files, then add text, holes or other shapes to them and export again. Group an imported model with a hole to cut it.
Is my work saved?
The last project is kept in this browser automatically. Use Save to keep a .mes3d file you can open on any computer.
