Add GPA and credits from before these terms (for a cumulative GPA)

For each course type the grade as a letter (A, B+, C-) or a percentage (92) — you can mix them — and its credits. Leave credits blank if your school does not use them (each course then counts as 1).

How GPA is calculated

GPA is a credit-weighted average of grade points. Each grade is turned into points on your school’s scale, multiplied by the course’s credits, added up and divided by the total credits:

GPA = Σ (grade points × credits) ÷ Σ credits

For example an A (4.0) in a 3-credit course and a B (3.0) in a 4-credit course give (4.0×3 + 3.0×4) ÷ 7 = 3.43. A cumulative GPA works the same way across all your terms, which is why adding your earlier GPA and credits above gives your new overall figure.

Scales used here

Schools differ, especially around A+ and the lowest passing grade. See the 4.0 GPA scale and 4.33 GPA scale pages for the conversion tables. Percentages are rounded to the nearest whole number first.

Questions

What is a weighted GPA?

A weighted GPA adds a bonus for harder courses. Tick Weighted GPA and mark each course Honors (+0.5) or AP / IB (+1.0). The bonus is not added to an F.

What GPA do I need next term?

Use What GPA do I need next?: enter the cumulative GPA you want and the credits you will take, and the calculator tells you what your next term has to average, or that the goal is out of reach.
