What is gematria?
Gematria assigns a number to every letter, so any word or phrase adds up to a value. This calculator shows the most popular English cipher systems side by side — and Hebrew if you type Hebrew letters — so you can compare them at a glance.
The systems
- Ordinal — A = 1 through Z = 26. Reverse Ordinal — A = 26 through Z = 1.
- Reduction (Pythagorean) — letters cycle through 1–9 (A = 1 … I = 9, J = 1 …). Reverse Reduction counts the cycle from Z.
- Standard (English / Jewish-style) — A–I are 1–9, J–R are 10–90, S–Z are 100–800.
- Sumerian — the ordinal value × 6. Reverse Sumerian — the reverse ordinal value × 6.
- Hebrew (Mispar Hechrachi) — the traditional values, with final letters counted the same as their normal forms.
Only letters are counted (spaces, punctuation and accents are ignored). Tick Count digits to add 0–9 at face value. Nothing you type leaves your browser.
