A free video editor in your browser

What it does
Put videos, sound and pictures on a timeline with as many video and audio tracks as you need, trim the ends, split at the playhead, delete parts and close the gap, join many clips in order, add titles and picture overlays, cross-fade between clips, fade in and out, change the speed, set the volume of each clip, remove background noise and even out the loudness. Then export an MP4 (H.264 and AAC) that plays everywhere, from 480p to 4K.
Made to replace the everyday parts of Camtasia
Screen recordings and lessons usually need the same few steps: cut out the mistakes, join the parts, put a title on top, make the voice clear and loud enough, export. Those are all here, with the familiar keys (S to split, I and O to mark, J K L to play). AVI, MKV, WMV and other files are converted to MP4 when you import them; an AVI screen recording with H.264 is only re-packed, so it takes seconds.
Clean up the sound
Select a clip and press Remove noise to take out fan hum, hiss and room noise (AI noise removal running in your browser), and Normalize loudness to bring each clip to the same loudness (-16 LUFS for videos and podcasts, -14 for YouTube) without clipping.
Your work is saved as you go
The project and its media are kept in this browser, so closing the tab loses nothing. Save project file writes a small .mesvideo file you can open again later; the media files are matched by name, so keep them.
How the export works
Every frame is decoded with your computer's video decoder (WebCodecs), drawn with the titles and overlays, and encoded again with its H.264 encoder, usually on the graphics chip; the sound is mixed and encoded to AAC. In Chrome, Edge and Brave (with the File System Access API on) the MP4 can be written straight to disk, so even long exports do not fill the memory.
Limits of this first version
No keyframe animation, no green screen, no cursor effects or zoom-and-pan yet, and the speed change also changes the pitch of the sound. Firefox and Safari cannot export (no H.264 encoder there yet); use Chrome, Edge or Brave on a computer.

Is it private?

Yes. Your videos, sound and pictures stay on your computer; nothing is uploaded to mes.fm or anywhere else. The only downloads are the open-source libraries the editor uses (mp4box.js, mp4-muxer, and ffmpeg.wasm when a file needs converting) and the noise-removal model the first time you use it.
