Archive Any Web Page: Wayback Machine, archive.today and More

Free web archive tool: paste an address and open the Wayback Machine, archive.today, Ghostarchive, Megalodon and more at once to save a copy or find old ones, add your own archive sites, send it to the Hive blockchain, and get the one-click MES Archive browser extension.

Archive any page in one click: browser extension

The MES Archive extension for Chrome, Brave and Edge does the same thing from the page you are reading: click its button (or press Alt+Shift+A) and your chosen archive sites open in new tabs with the current page already filled in. Right-click any link to archive it without opening it first. You pick the sites once, add your own, and it remembers. Tick ArcHive and it hands the page you are on to ArcHive for the Hive blockchain, with no bookmarklet needed.

Private: no accounts, no tracking. The extension only talks to the archive sites you open.

Install it (about a minute)

  1. Download the zip and unzip it. Keep the folder mes-archive somewhere permanent.
  2. Open the extensions page (copy the address, then paste it in the address bar): chrome://extensions in Chrome, brave://extensions in Brave, edge://extensions in Edge.
  3. Turn on Developer mode, click Load unpacked and choose the mes-archive folder.
  4. Pin MES Archive from the puzzle-piece menu. Click it on any page.

No extension? Drag this to your bookmarks bar: Archive this page. Clicking it on any page opens this tool with that page's address filled in.

Archive any web page

Pages change, get paywalled, move or vanish. Paste an address and open it on the Wayback Machine, archive.today, Ghostarchive, Megalodon and more at once, either to save a fresh copy or to find copies that already exist. Add your own archive site, tick the ones you trust, and we remember your choice. There is even a Hive blockchain option for a permanent, tamper-evident copy.

Why use several archives?

  • No archive can save everything: some sites block one service but not another, and some pages only render properly in one.
  • A copy in more than one place survives if a single archive goes offline or removes it.
  • Different archives keep different layouts: the Wayback Machine is built for history and dates, archive.today for an exact visual copy.

Questions

Is saving a page to an archive public?

Yes. Anything saved on the Wayback Machine, archive.today or Ghostarchive can be seen by anyone with the link, and the page's address is stored. Do not archive pages with private information, logged-in pages or anything you would not want public.

What does the Hive blockchain option do?

It opens ArcHive, a free third-party tool by dhenz14 that stores the page's text on the Hive blockchain together with its cryptographic hashes, so the copy can be proved later. You sign with Hive Keychain or HiveAuth. mes.fm only passes your address to it.

Why does ArcHive tell me to use its bookmarklet?

ArcHive deliberately has no server: it can only read a page from inside your own browser. So on a computer, pasting a link only lets it check whether that page is already on Hive. To publish a new copy, open ArcHive once, drag its bookmarklet to your bookmarks bar, go to the page you want and click the bookmarklet there. On Android the link alone works. This is how ArcHive is built, not something mes.fm can change.

The MES Archive extension does that step for you: with the Hive option ticked, it reads the page you are on, opens ArcHive and hands the page over, so you only press Archive Now and sign. (The extension asks for permission to read the page you click it on, and for ArcHive's site.)

Why does archive.today ask me to prove I am human?

It runs on donations and limits automated use. Solve the check once and your copy is saved. If it will not load where you are, tick a different address (archive.is, archive.md, archive.vn…).
