Free FSA Practice Tests: Grade 4 and 7 Numeracy and Reading (B.C.)

Free FSA-style practice tests for B.C. Grade 4 and Grade 7: numeracy with new random numbers every time and reading passages with multiple-choice and written questions. Full test, quick 10 or one topic, results by topic and every answer explained. No sign-up.

Practice questions in the style of British Columbia's Foundation Skills Assessment (FSA). Every question was written for MES; this is not the official test and is not connected to the B.C. Ministry of Education.

How these practice tests work

  • New questions every time. Numeracy questions are made from templates with random numbers, so no two tests are the same. Literacy tests pick passages at random from a bank of original stories, articles, poems and notices.
  • Three ways to practise: a full test (25 numeracy questions or 4 reading passages), a quick 10, or practise a topic with the answer shown after each question.
  • Every question shows how hard it is (easy, medium, hard) and which grade and age it fits.
  • Results by topic, then review every question with a worked explanation. Print a blank test with an answer key, or save your results as a PDF.
  • Private: no account, nothing is uploaded. Unfinished tests and your results stay in this browser.

Free FSA-style practice tests for Grade 4 and Grade 7

British Columbia's Foundation Skills Assessment (FSA) checks reading (literacy) and numeracy in Grades 4 and 7. These free practice tests use the same kinds of questions: reading passages with multiple-choice, "choose two", "put in order" and short written answers, and numeracy questions with pictures, number lines, tables, money, clocks, graphs and word problems. Every question was written for MES, and numeracy questions get new numbers every time.

Questions

Is this the real FSA?
No. It is an independent practice tool in the same style. The official sample tests are on the B.C. government's FSA site. Results here are only a guide and are not reported anywhere.
How long is a test?
A full numeracy test has 25 questions and a full literacy test has 4 passages (about 24 questions). Most students take 30 to 50 minutes. A quick test has 10 questions or 2 passages.
How are written answers marked?
At the end you see a model answer and a short marking guide next to your own answer. The page suggests a mark from the key ideas it finds, and you (or a parent or teacher) choose Not yet, Part or Full.
Can a class all take the same test?
Yes. Every test has a test code. Type the same code under "Use a test code" and everyone gets the same questions, in the same order. You can also print a test with an answer key.
Is anything saved online?
No. There is no sign-up and nothing is uploaded. An unfinished test and your recent results are kept only in this browser.
