Early in a season several teams often have the same record, say five teams at 2-1 in 4th to 8th. Their order in the table is only a tie-break, so a pick of any of them for any spot from 4th to 8th counts as exact. Untick it to use the published order exactly.

Team by team
Your sets of picks are saved in this browser as you go. A link carries the name and the picks, nothing else, and nothing is stored on a server: whoever opens it gets the picks as a new set, scored on the day they look.
Everyone’s picks are scored against the same live standings, worked out on the server. Picks made after the season started are marked with how many games had been played, so early birds get the credit; playoff picks close when the playoffs start.

MES MLB Picks checks your predicted order of the American League and National League (15 teams each: 1-3 division winners, 4-6 wild cards), the six divisions and the whole league (1 to 30) against the current MLB standings, and scores your postseason picks (Division Series, League Championship Series, World Series and champion) as the series are played.
How the scores work
Exact, within 1, 2 or 3 spots, right tier (division winner, wild card, out), right side of the line (in or out of the 6 playoff spots), points (3 exact, 2 one off, 1 two off), closeness and Spearman’s ρ. Postseason picks earn 1 point for each Division Series team you got right, 2 for each LCS team, 4 for each World Series team and 8 for the champion.
Questions
What happens when the season is over?
After game 162 the table is final: your picks are scored against it and the leaderboard closes. The postseason tab keeps scoring your bracket until the World Series is won. You can already make and save picks for next season; they are scored once its first games are played.
Where do the standings come from?
From ESPN’s public standings and scoreboard feeds, refreshed about every 10 minutes, in ESPN’s published seeding.
Is anything about me stored?
Your picks stay in this browser. Only if you post to the leaderboard are the name you chose and your picks stored, with a private key in your browser that lets you change or remove them.
