NBA Standings Predictions Tracker: How Many of Your Picks Are Right?
Free NBA standings predictions tracker: put the 15 teams of the East and the West in the order you think they will finish and see how many you have right so far against the live standings: exact spots, within one to three spots, the right playoff / play-in / lottery tier, points and rank correlation, with a picture of every pick. Save several sets, share a link, compare with friends and join the leaderboard.
Drag the teams into the order you think they will finish (or paste your list), and the score updates against today’s standings.
Drag a team by its handle (or use the arrows) to put it where you think it will finish. On a keyboard: focus a handle, then Up / Down, Home / End.
Early in a season several teams often have the same win-loss record, say five teams at 2-1 in 4th to 8th. Their order in the table is only a tie-break, so a pick of any of them for any spot from 4th to 8th counts as exact. Untick it to use the published order exactly.

The link carries the name and both lists, nothing else, and nothing is stored on a server. Whoever opens it gets the picks as a new set, scored against the standings on the day they look.
Everyone’s picks are scored against the same live standings, worked out on the server. Picks made after the season started are marked with how many games had been played, so early birds get the credit.
Track your NBA standings predictions against the live table
MES NBA Picks checks your predicted final standings for the Eastern and Western Conference against the current NBA standings. Type or paste your order of the 15 teams in each conference, and it shows how many teams are in the exact spot, within one, two or three spots, in the right tier (top 6 playoff spot, 7th to 10th play-in, 11th to 15th lottery), plus a points score and a rank correlation, with a picture that joins each of your picks to where that team is now.
How the scores work
Exact counts the teams in the spot you picked. Within 1, 2 or 3 counts the teams that many spots or fewer away. Right tier counts the teams in the same group you put them in: playoffs (1st-6th), play-in (7th-10th) or lottery (11th-15th). In or out of the top 10 checks only whether you had a team in the post-season picture. Points gives 3 for an exact spot, 2 for one off and 1 for two off (45 is perfect). Closeness is 100% minus the total number of spots you are off as a share of the worst possible order (112 spots). Spearman’s ρ is the usual rank correlation: 1 is the same order, 0 no relation, −1 the reverse.
Questions
Where do the standings come from?
From ESPN’s public standings feed, refreshed about every 10 minutes, in ESPN’s published order (which already applies the NBA tie-breakers once teams have played enough games).
Why do tied teams share their spots?
In the first weeks many teams have the same record, and their order is a coin flip of tie-breakers. With the box ticked a pick counts as exact anywhere inside the group of spots the tied teams cover. Untick it to score against the published order only.
Can I fix my picks after the season starts?
Yes, but the leaderboard shows how many games had been played when you last changed them, and a tie on the board goes to whoever picked earlier.
Is anything about me stored?
Your sets of picks stay in this browser. Only if you post to the leaderboard are the name you chose and your two lists stored, with a private key in your browser that lets you change or remove them.
