Pomodoro timer

The Pomodoro Technique is a simple way to stay focused: work in short, intense blocks, usually 25 minutes, separated by 5-minute breaks, with a longer 15-minute break after four blocks. This free Pomodoro timer runs the cycle for you.

How to use it

  1. Choose one task and press Start.
  2. Work until the timer rings. Then take the short break it starts for you.
  3. After four focus sessions you get a long break. The page counts how many focus sessions you finished today.

Settings

  • Change the focus, short break and long break lengths and the number of rounds (for example 50 / 10 for longer blocks).
  • Turn Start the next phase automatically off if you want to press Start after each break yourself.
  • Press Skip to move to the next phase early, or click a phase to jump to it.
  • The remaining time shows in the browser tab, and the timer keeps counting if you reload the page.

Questions

Why 25 minutes?

It is the length Francesco Cirillo used with his tomato-shaped kitchen timer (“pomodoro” is Italian for tomato). It is short enough to feel doable and long enough to get into a task. Adjust it to whatever works for you.
